Dear Fathers, Brothers and Sisters,
Grace and Peace of the Risen Lord be with you
I would like to remind you about the forgotten but very important fact of the Archdiocesan Thanksgiving Day, which normally used to be celebrated at the Votive Shrine, Kilpauk on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, by the late Archbishops Louis Mathias and Arulappa (the happy memory) to be renewed by all of us every year.
It is to commemorate the vow made by the Archbishop Louis Mathias in 1942 during the World War II when the Japanese had invaded India especially Madras already and he prayed fervently that the whole of Madras should be saved from bombing. Within a few days miraculously the war ceased and the entire Madras was saved. As he vowed, he found a place at Kilpauk and built a Shrine and dedicated it to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and asked all the Parishes and the Parishioners from the whole Archdiocese to come and participate in the Thanksgiving Mass held at Votive Shrine during the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This year it falls on 12th June 2010.
I hereby exhort you and your parishioners to come to the Votive Shrine, Kilpauk, where we offer the Eucharistic Thanksgiving in the name of the Archdiocese on 12th June this year on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 5.30 pm.
Hereafter I would like you to remember the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as A Day of the Archdiocesan Thanksgiving. Hope to meet you all as one Archdiocesan family to celebrate this day at the Votive Shrine, Kilpauk on 12th June.
Your Servant in Christ
